Donate To Betsy's Second Chance Fund
PARL's surrender rate is up 35%! Why? Foreclosures, increasing food and gas costs, and an inability to keep up with basic veterinary care. Here's a YouTube link to a news story featuring PARL. We have also seen a striking increase in the number of surrendered animals that require critical medical care. In response, we launched Betsy’s Second Chance Fund to provide medical care and surgery to the animals that need it the most.

Goofy Patch! If Patch were human and at your party, then he'd be the first guy wearing a lampshade...

Everyone at PARL adores Patch. He's got a brilliant, happy personality and is just a big goofball. He's extremely affectionate and people-focused. When we play with him in the yard he just loves to romp around.

Patch needs some obedience training. He pulls very hard on the leash and jumps up. Our trainers have worked with him a bit and report that he responds quickly to training. So, we think he'll shed his bad habits very quickly with consistent training.

Boomer just wants to have fun! Boomer is a big, young, high-energy pit mix who will need an active household and plenty of exercise.

Boomer loves to chase tennis balls, but only occasionally brings them back (hmmm). He's very play and people focused and just loves to romp. This is a very fun-oriented dog.

Boomer definitely needs some obedience training along with exercise. He's very treat-focused and eager to please, so we thing that he'll respond nicely to consistent structure and training.

Cuddly Ruby! Ruby came to us after being badly neglected. Despite her poor treatment, she's a wonderful, happy dog who absolutely adores everyone she meets.

Ruby loves to cuddle with her human buddies and is extremely eager to please. She has a very open, warm personality.

Ruby has energy, but not over-the-top energy. She likes to play, but she knows when you need her to calm down. She can pull very hard on the leash and may be better suited to a harness rather than a traditional leash and collar. She is one of the best students in our shelter dog obedience course.

PARL Perfect Pooch Student!
This pup is en
rolled in PARL's Perfect Pooch Canine Obedience course. This six week basic obedience course helps our shelter dogs become better behaved and more adoptable. If you adopt this dog, you have the option of taking over training with this dog at a pro-rated fee.

Name: Gage
ID: 7933
Breed: Pit Bull
Sex: Male
Age: 3 years
Weight: 82 lb.
Housebroken: Yes
Good w/ Dogs: Yes
Good w/ Cats: No
Good w/ Kids: No
Big Gage! At over 80 pounds, Gage is a lot of dog all in one place. That said, he's remarkably well behaved on the leash. He's got a very noble personality.

At the same time, Gage can be very playful and puppyish. He loves chew toy and being active. He'll need plenty of exercise to stay pooped and happy.

Gage loves people and getting head scratchies. He's very treat and toy focused and we think he'll do great in obedience training with the right owner. He's a little strong willed, so he needs an owner who'll make sure he knows who's boss. Gage loves kids, but he's a bit of a bull-in-a-china-shop when he plays. He could easily knock small children over.

Name: Hayley
ID: 7929
Breed: Pit Bull
Sex: Spayed female
Age: 2 years
Weight: 77 lb.
Housebroken: yes
Good w/ Dogs: Yes
Good w/ Cats: Unknown

Gentle Hayley! This big, beefy female Pit Bull came from a home where she lived with an eight pound Yorkshire Terrier. She LOVES other dogs!

Hayley has a very serene, Zen personality. She's very sweet and snuggly (and loves her butt rubs). She also has an independent streak in her, so she doesn't need constant attention.

Perhaps it's just the shelter environment, but we've noticed that Hayley can be shy with new people. She doesn't like people rushing at her, even if they just want to say "hi!". She's great on the leash and never jumps up.

Name: Osito
ID: 7925
Breed: Terrier Mix
Sex: Neutered male
Age: 2 years
Weight: 38 lb.
Housebroken:
Good w/ Dogs: Unknown
Good w/ Cats: Unknown
Good w/ Kids: No
Happy Ocito! This super-affectionate pooch is the epitome of a shelter mutt ... he's got about a dozen different types of terrier in him and they're all cute.

Ocito came to PARL because his former owners couldn't afford to keep him anymore. He loves people and adores getting scratchies. He's great on the leash and never jumps up.

Ocito is submissive and a touch shy. He's fine with new people as long as they introduce themselves gently and quietly. Ocito is very well mannered and already knows 'sit' and 'come'. We think he'll do great in an obedience class.

Frisky Fred! Fred has a lot of energy packed into a tiny, little dog. He's tons of fun and loves to run and play.

Fred also loves head scratchies and butt rubs. When he's all tired out, Fred is a great lap dog.

Fred will need lots of exercise, play, and obedience training to keep him pooped and happy. He's great with adults, but he doesn't seem to have a lot of patience for small children. He'll do best in a home with adults or adult-aged kids.

Name: Alexis
ID: 8014
Breed: Pit Bull
Sex: Spayed female
Age: 2 years
Weight: 51 lb.
Housebroken: Yes
Good w/ Dogs: Unknown
Good w/ Cats: Unknown
Good w/ Kids: Yes (10+)
Affable Alexis! Alexis came to us as a stray and she was shockingly thin when we first received her. Deptite her tough times, she's maintained a sunny, friendly personality with everyone she meets.

Alexis adores romping around, rolling in the tall grass, and napping on picnic tables. She's energetic and will need daily exercise and play. She's a very sweet girl and loves to be cuddled.

Alexis almost never jumps up. She's pretty good on the leash but could use some pointers on basic obedience. She's very treat and people-oriented. We think that she'll do great in an obedience class.

Name: Chip
ID: 8166
Breed: Pit Bull
Sex: Neutered male
Age: 3 years
Weight: 61 lb.
Housebroken: Yes
Good w/ Dogs: Yes
Good w/ Cats: No
Good w/ Kids: Yes (12+)
Chipper Chip! This dog adores people and loves soaking up attention. He's got energy, but he's not over-the-top. Still, he'll need plenty of exercise and obedience training.

Chip is very affectionate but he's also got an independent streak, so he can entertain himself if you're busy.

Generally, Chip is well behaved but he's got one bad habit. He loves to play tug-of-war with his leashes and toys. This isn't uncommon with a lot of dogs, but Chip is very strong willed and it can be hard to convice him to let go. To him, it's all a game. That said, he's very people-focused and we think he can get over this bad habit with proper obedience training.

Sweet Angel Eyes! This is one of our most aptly-named dogs. Angel Eyes has gorgeous pale eyes.

Angel Eyes is also extremely sweet and loving. She loves everyone she meets and is very gentle. She's great with small children.

At one year-old, Angel eyes is very well behaved. She's pretty good on the leash and rarely jumps up. She's energetic but calms down quickly when you need her to. She likes to stay busy and we think she'll do great in obedience classes.

Three Adorable Puppies! What can we say? They're puppies and they're really freakin' cute!

The two females came from the same litter. They're white with brindle patches. One is pictured here.

The male (not pictured) is almost all dark brown with a white spot on his chest. He's the last from another litter.

Typical of puppies, they're all very cuddly, happy, bouncy, and fun.

Cheeky Chiquito! For a seven year-old dog, Chiquito has plenty of energy and spunk left in him.

This zippy little terrier mix loves to be on the move and exploring. He loves to run around outside as much as he likes getting attention from his nearest human buddy.

Chiquito loves people but lacks the patience for rough handling from small children. We'd prefer that he go to a home with adults or adult-aged children.

Soulful Sadie! This sweet young dog loves people, cuddling, and slow head scratchies.

Sadie is extremely affectionate, but she can also be independent and low-maintenance. She's got energy and will need plenty of exercise and play to keep her pooped and happy.

Sadie never jumps up and she's pretty good on the leash (though she could use a refresher course on basic obedience). Sadie adores here human friends, but she's not very good with other dogs and cats.
