The Art of Compassion
This brand-new program is perfect for library settings, summer vacation programs and after-school programs for children of ALL ages, and those that are young at heart! Program participants are guided to focus on three images of the human-animal relationship and encouraged to express these feelings in words and drawings.
-- All ages
-- 60 to 90 minutes
-- Fee $100

Let’s Play it Safe Around Dogs
Learn how to be kind and respectful to dogs. This introduction to dog bite prevention uses hands-on materials to teach basic safety skills around dogs in a positive, non-threatening way. When possible, a live animal will accompany the program presenter.
-- Children from age 4–7
-- 55 minutes

Introduction to Animals
Discover that, just like people, companion animals have basic needs like healthy food, clean water, a safe place to live and someone to call a friend. Geared towards the young learner, this program emphasizes quality care and companionship, along with the importance of responsibility. When possible, a live animal will accompany the program presenter. (May be combined with Let’s Play It Safe Around Dog for an hour-long class.)
-- Children from age 4 - 10
-- 45-50 minutes
-- Fee $100

Inside PARL
Groups of 8 to 20 can explore the world of animal sheltering from behind the scenes while on a guided tour of The Providence Animal Rescue League. Students will learn the common reasons why animals are surrendered to the League for adoption, how animals are cared for while they are being sheltered here, and how the adoption process works. Our educators will answer your questions about the Providence Animal Rescue League in this interactive presentation.
-- 5th grade - Adult
-- 75 minutes
-- Fee $100

Responsibility in a Bag!
This interactive, hands-on program shows current and future animal owners the “must-haves” for responsible pet care. Students will learn what a pet needs while it is in the home, on the road, and out in public places. Emphasis is placed on safety, training basics, and animal care (brushing, bathing, tick removal). We’ll also discuss rabies prevention, licensing, and the importance of animal identification.
-- 2nd grade – Adult
-- 60 minutes
-- Fee $100

In Our Backyard!
Ever wonder what is making that spooky noise at night? Or what is tipping over your trashcans? Students will discover what wild animals live here in our community and how to be a good neighbor to them. We will explore different animal species and learn about their habits, habitats, and history. We will discuss facts versus myths surrounding some unusual species and program participants will have the opportunity to handle a large variety of animal pelts, bones, shells, and artifacts.
-- 2nd grade – Adult
-- 60 minutes
-- Fee $100

Careers with Animals
What is hippotherapy anyway? Students take a realistic look at a variety of established and newly emerging professions that involve working with animals. We will look at careers in animal sheltering, wildlife management, field research, animal behavior, mounted police, pet therapy, zoo keeping, K9 police officer, pet grooming, search and rescue, and many more. Students will learn about local organizations that are creating new and innovative ways to bring animals and people together in the workplace. Guest speakers may be available and, when possible, live animal(s) will accompany program presenter. Email
education@parl.org or call for more details.
-- Time and fees vary by program scope
-- 5th grade and up
