It's All About Enrichment! (...and happy dogs, cats & critters!)
We know the days in the shelter can be long so that is why PARL staff is always thinking of innovative ways to keep our animals minds occupied with puzzles and games. We'd like to share some of these tips with you to try with your dog. Something as simple as freezing a bowl of water filled with treats, carrots, and peanut butter can keep a shelter dog entertained for hours. Maybe you can help us help our cats, dogs, rabbits and critters by donating items for our enrichment programs?

Those Rascally Rabbits
If we told you about an indoor companion animal that uses a litter-box, comes when called and plays with toys would you assume we were talking about a dog? cat? Many people are surprised to find out that rabbits make wonderful indoor companions that are affectionate and playful. That being said rabbits are not the companion for everyone. Some of the tips below may help you determine whether or not a long-eared, hoping furry friend is right for you.

Rabbits are strict herbivores, plant eaters. Rabbits graze all day long eating high fiber leafy green food. A proper daily rabbit diet should consists of unlimited access to timothy hay, several types of leafy green vegetables and a very small amount of commercial pellets. Limit pellets to 3 tablespoons for every 4lbs every day. more...
