Nurture new/existing projects and programs intended to help pets and people stay together whenever possible and in the best interest of both.
Connect with human services organizations in our service area.

Include an annual event that happens at ourshelter to promote connectivity among our immediate and greater community.
POSITIVELY IMPACT PET ACQUISITION AND PET SURRENDER CYCLES WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY
Reduce length of stay in shelter and increase pet retention:
Invest in and grow our foster program.
Support appropriate adoption matches and the transition from shelter into new home.
Expand medical services provided to shelter animals on site.
Provide more opportunities for humane pet acquisition and increase adoption inventory through interstate intake program.
Provide comprehensive and accessible resources for our community to support pet retention and humane pet acquisition.
Develop metrics and tracking to better understand our community's needs.
INCREASE ACCESS TO PREVENTATIVE VETERINARY CARE FOR COMPANION ANIMALS IN OUR COMMUNITY
Prioritize and provide more accessible, affordable, and frequent access to preventative veterinary care (including but not limited to vaccines, nail trims, flea/tick preventative, and microchipping) for companion animals in our community to help them stay healthy and alleviate pressure on full-service clinics.
Partner with other animal welfare organizations, rescue groups, and existing private veterinary and grooming practices to creatively approach the challenges facing pets in areas of preventative care.
Utilize partnerships with schools and universities to create accessible and informational resources regarding general and preventative care.
ENSURE PARL'S LONG-TERM SUSTAINABILITY AND FULFILL OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, AND BELONGING (DEIB)
Invest in and support our DEIB committee in all its efforts, including evaluation of our programs, services, and human resources practices with a DEIB lens.
Create innovative internship and training opportunities for marginalized populations in an effort to introduce individuals to animal welfare, proactively contributing to diversity in our field.
Welcome and prioritize responsive action to DEIB feedback as provided by stakeholders.
Prioritize efforts to ensure our staff and board teams reflect the diverse and varied socioeconomic community we serve.
Invest in our staff team through professional development opportunities.
Lead by example; prioritize providing a competitive wage to our direct care team members as these positions are grossly underpaid in the field of animal welfare.
Build and expand on our fundraising efforts.
Reengage with and build community among our supporters, adopters, and volunteers.
Prioritize events with the most impactful return on investment.
Support and train board members to participate in PARL's increased fundraising efforts.
MAINTAIN AND IMPROVE OUR FACILITIES TO SUCCESSFULLY SUPPORT OUR WORK AND THE ANIMALS IN OUR CARE
Prioritize care and consideration of our aging facility and equipment. Our building is over 60 years old and there are several projects that warrant attention in the next 3-5 years, including but not limited to:
Replacement of aging and critical building systems.
Renovation/construction of surgery suite to include more diagnostic capabilities, animal housing, and dental surgeries.
Renovation of existing animal care areas, including isolation/sick areas.
Acquisition of new van for preventative vet care programs.
Upgrading technology systems to streamline work.
Utilize fundraising strategies to help accomplish facility maintenance and improvements projects; evaluate any emerging projects based on immediate need, alignment with our strategic goals, and available revenue for project completion.
